How To Get Your Real Estate Salesperson License In Iowa

3. Additional Salesperson License Requirements in Iowa
If you meet the general requirements and have completed your required course credit hours, you will need to complete the following steps to get your Salesperson license:
- Apply for your Iowa salesperson license
- Submit request for a criminal background check
- Successfully pass the Iowa Salesperson licensing exam with a score of 70% or higher
- Complete the three required 12-hour classroom courses (a total of 36 hours) with an approved provider NOTE: Colibri Real Estate does not currently offer classroom courses.
- Obtain sponsorship from a licensed Iowa broker
- Obtain Errors & Omissions insurance
- Complete the Iowa Real Estate License application

Obtaining Certificate of Course Completion: Upon completion of the course, Colibri Real Estate will provide you an electronic certificate of completion in your account dashboard. You may need to submit your certificate of completion with your license request, please refer to your license application to determine if this is necessary. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time, therefore that will be the time reflected on your certificate.

Iowa All License Requirements

•16.4(1) All individual real estate licenses are issued for three-year terms, counting the remaining portion of the year of issue as a full year. All individual licenses expire on December 31 of the third year of the license term.

Duplicate Courses: Per 193E—16.4(3) During each three-year renewal period a course may be taken for credit only once. A course may be repeated for credit only if the course numbers and instructors are different.
Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary but are generally 6 months after enrollment date.
Final Exam: In accordance with 193E—17.10(4), a passing score of 80 percent is required for course credit to be granted. There is no limit to the number of times a final examination may be taken to achieve a passing score.
Certificate: With few exceptions, online course completion certificates are available for download at course conclusion and posted directly to your student dashboard.
